How I work

Starting therapy can feel unfamiliar, exposing, or difficult to put into words. Many people arrive unsure where to begin, carrying experiences they have never spoken about before, or exhausted from trying to cope alone.

There is no expectation to arrive with everything worked out or explained perfectly. Therapy is not about performing or saying the “right” thing.

It is a space where difficult experiences, painful emotions, and protective patterns can begin to be explored safely, honestly, and at your pace.

What therapy looks like

Therapy is not about being judged, analysed from a distance, or expected to have the right words. It is a real conversation between two people.

We sit together and talk about what feels important, painful, confusing, overwhelming, or difficult to carry alone. Sometimes things that once felt chaotic or impossible to understand begin to make more sense when they no longer have to be held alone.

Some sessions may feel emotional, confronting, relieving, or unexpectedly light. Sometimes words come easily. Sometimes they don't. There is no pressure to explain yourself perfectly or talk about anything before you feel ready.

Therapy is not about performing or arriving with everything figured out. Often, it begins with having a space where you no longer need to carry everything alone.

The first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what has brought you to therapy, what feels difficult at the moment, and whether working together feels right for you.

We will also go through the therapeutic agreement together. This includes confidentiality, session frequency, boundaries, and the practical structure of our work. If relevant, we may briefly discuss any current risks or supports needed to make sure therapy feels safe and appropriate for you.

You are welcome to ask questions, speak openly about concerns, or take time before deciding whether you would like to continue.

Online and in-person sessions

Sessions are available both online and in person in Cork. We will always start in person, but can move to online sessions if helpful. We can discuss what feels most suitable for you.
